Josiah is a retired US Navy Chief Petty Officer and Afghanistan war combat veteran. He is a Utah BCI Certified Instructor, NRA Certified Firearms Instructor, International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) competitor and an experienced military and civilian trainer. He has taught both the Virginia & Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) courses since 2018 and the Utah Concealed Firearms Permit (CFP) course since 2022.

During his 23 years of service in the US Navy, he was certified as a Range Safety Officer & Small Arms Line Coach, USN Force Protection Action Officer & Training Team Leader, and USN Shipboard and Base Security Force Team Leader. Additionally, he completed the Navy’s Individual Augmentee Combat Skills Training Course at Fort Jackson, SC; US Army Foreign Weapons Familiarization Course at Fort Polk, LA; Advanced Combat Lifesaver Course at Ft. Sam Houston, TX and has qualified both US Army and US Navy Expert Marksman, for pistol and rifle.

Growing up in rural Colorado Josiah is a lifelong shooter and hunter. He has been a Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) holder since 1997 and currently also holds CHP’s for the states of Utah, Florida and Pennsylvania.
